Anne & Mark - Spanish Hills Country Club, Camarillo, CA

Sunday, August 31st, 2008

We had a wedding double-header this Labor Day weekend and first up is Anne & Mark Quest (isn’t that the coolest name?). Anne & Mark made their commitment at the beautiful Santa Clara Church in Oxnard and then celebrated into the night at the Spanish Hills Country Club overlooking Camarillo.

Beautiful people. Beautiful settings. Beautiful wedding. The day began at the Four Seasons in Westlake Village where Anne & Mark got ready for the big day. Their limo, a vintage Rolls Royce, took the bride over to the church just a few miles away. Although it was extremely hot & humid (what coast are we on?), the ceremony was very special (Anne & Mark wrote their own vows to each other). We then moved on to the reception located in the hills of Camarillo. Guests were treated to a candy station (yum), a cigar-rolling table, and a photo booth for the wedding scrapbook. There was a lot of love that night (some of the best speeches I’ve heard at a wedding) and plenty of celebrating as they danced away to a very cool mix of classic R&B tunes (my first love in music).

We had the pleasure of meeting and working alongside Amelia & Justin of Amelia Lyon Photography and event planner Richelle Gregorio of Rare Designs. Enjoy a glimpse of Anne & Mark’s special day below! The video is set to Alicia Key’s “Like You’ll Never See Me Again”. Can anyone guess what Prince song is “sampled” in this slow jam?

Dennis & Linda’s Concept Video & Same Day Edit - Universal Hilton

Sunday, August 24th, 2008

Dennis & Linda had a difficult time choosing a movie for their concept video to be played at their wedding reception. So we ended up using that dilemma as the plot for their story! The inspiration came from Billy Crystal’s opening videos at The Oscars, where he jumps around different movies, interacting with characters and asking for advice. We chose five Tom Cruise movies for Dennis to run around in and look for help for his wedding day.

Their wedding day began with a morning tea ceremony at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Redondo Beach and then it was off to the Neighborhood Church on the bluffs of Palos Verdes Estates. It was a beautiful setting for the wedding ceremony. Although the church had strict rules (we couldn’t move from our two spots), we were able to get some good shots. It was one of those ceremonies that reminded us why we love doing weddings. Finally, for the reception, we headed up to the movie capital of Los Angeles… Universal Studios, where Dennis and Linda’s 400 friends and family gave their short film a rousing ovation. It was great way to end a long, but incredibly fun day shooting alongside our friends JP and Owen from John Lauren Photography (we stayed at the Hilton to visit the theme park the next day)!

Theresa and Ed’s Concept Video & Same Day Edit - Sheraton Universal

Friday, August 8th, 2008

I first met Theresa and Ed about a year ago. They came to me with with a grand idea for a concept video for their 08.08.08 wedding. At our very first meeting, Theresa handed me a complete script! It was fully typed out and looked like a real screenplay! I was shocked but I knew at that point it was going to be awesome.

They wanted to spoof their favorite movies and TV shows and use them as introductions for each section of their photo montage. Ed is a huge Star Wars fan (like me) and Theresa, who is a nurse, is a fan of Grey’s Anatomy (like my wife, Hazel). When they mentioned those shows, I was totally in! Theresa and Ed are also big fans of the Lakers (again, like us) and so before our first scheduled shoot day I threw in the idea of doing a couple of NBA and Nike commercials.

The finished product came together incredibly well. Theresa and Ed’s vision was perfect. We capped it off with a Same Day Edit using a song that Theresa sang and recorded for Ed. Thank you Theresa and Ed. You guys are so talented!

Taking photos with Red 5 Studios!

Sunday, August 3rd, 2008

This weekend Hazel and I got a chance to work with our friends, JP and Owen, from John Lauren Photography. We needed to take photos for a special Red 5 Studios project (which we will reveal later) and this time we we would be the ones in front of the camera! On Saturday, we wanted to take some photos in front of a movie theater, so we checked out some local independent theaters. The Harkins Theater (famous for their popcorn seasonings) was very busy, of course, so we moved on. We went to Krikorian Theater (one of the first in the area to have stadium seating) and, to our surprise, found out that it was closed for remodeling! We had the whole place to ourselves! Let me say that it was strange to be on the other side of the lens (we haven’t been in this situation since our engagement photos… 12 years ago)! But we had a great time and it was very cool to be shooting in front of this abandoned movie theater. On Sunday, we needed some type of production shot so we recreated a set in JP and Owen’s garage. The photo turned out exactly how I pictured it! You can’t tell, but I’m as sick as a dog when we took that shot. Thanks, JP and Owen, for all your hard work (you guys are so talented and are gonna be big in the business very soon). PF Chang’s and Red Velvet Cake from CPK was so good! Thanks also to KB, Louie, Gian and Robin for coming out to shoot with us on Sunday. We had a lot of fun. Check out a few of our favorite images below!
